It's a...

This week we were able to have our 20 week anatomy scan. We had debated early in this pregnancy whether or not to find out the gender. I was for not finding out and letting it be a surprise at birth, but Justin wanted to know. After not much argument I conceded. I kind of wanted to know too.

We were able to see all the different aspects of the baby from the head to the feet and finally the big shot: the gender. To my surprise we found a very obvious penis.

Surprise!

Since the girls have gotten older I've gotten away from keeping up with this blog. Well last month we got some news that has brought me back. Surprise! Baby Nunley 3.0 is scheduled to make his/her appearance April 7, 2015.

As you can see from this ultrasound photo, this baby will henceforth be referred to as Baby Bunny.

Introducing: Baby Squirt!

Since Justin cannot contain himself any longer, the secret must come out! We are excited to announce that Avery will be a big sister to Baby Squirt in April 2012. ♥

Chubby Cheeks!

On Tuesday I had a regular check up appointment and the doctor did and ultrasound to check Avery's position.

Normally they say babies are too big at this point to get a clear picture, but my wonderful OB was able to get one and gave it to us.

I can't tell if her cheeks really are that chubby, or if it's just the way her head is positioned, but either way we are in love.

3D ultrasound - it's a side profile with her hand on her forehead.

She told us that Avery will likely not wait until her due date to make her entrance to the world, but that if she doesn't come by August 16, they will induce. I sure hope I don't have to wait that long, but I would at least like her to keep cooking a little while longer in there to be nice and healthy and strong when she comes out!

More pictures of our baby girl!

I finally scanned some of the rest of the pictures from our ultrasound last week! Enjoy! I know we do. ;-)

Can I get a drumroll, please?

We went to the Perinatologist office today for our BIG ULTRASOUND today.

After 77 pictures and 45 glorious minutes of watching out little one on the big screen we are so excited to announce that we will be welcoming a beautiful baby girl in August!
This picture is of her two legs and the two lines in the middle are her, ahem, lady parts

Everything they measured looked great. She has 10 fingers and 10 toes, 4 chambers in her heart, and a "gorgeous" brain (according to the doctor).

We have about a gazillion pictures, and I will scan some more when I get to work tomorrow.

Sneak Peek!

This morning we had another doctor's appointment with my regular OB. Normally they'd do our gender determination, but since we scheduled it with the Perinatologist, we were just going in for a check up. I had mentioned to Justin that maybe if the OB had time this morning I might be able to convince him to do a quick ultrasound to check for gender.

Our appointment was for 8:15 and after sitting in the room for 25 minutes popped her head in to say that the doctor should be there in a few minutes, he was running late. Once he finally showed up at 5 minutes til 9, we got started. I was kind of disappointed because I knew if he was already running late, there's no way he would do something extra for us, but I thought I'd give it a shot anyways.

He asked if anything exciting was going on and I said, "Actually no. It's particularly NOT exciting because the Peri wouldn't move up my ultrasound and I am very impatient." He just nodded his head and asked a few more questions and listened to the heart beat, which was 150! The he was getting all his stuff together and said if we wanted to wait a couple minutes he would move me to an ultrasound room and give us a sneak peek to find out the gender!

I was so excited! Justin was already going to be late, so we figured what's a couple more minutes! We moved into the other room and the doctor came back after about 10 minutes. He put the wand on my belly and voila! There was the baby! We have a little acrobat!

At very first glance he said he thought he saw a "penile structure", but after some adjustment of the want to get a better picture, he said the baby had it's foot tucked right under it's butt and what he thought was a penis could have been a toe. With some poking and prodding he never saw the "penile structure" again, so that would lead him to believe it was a girl!

So since our little one is as stubborn as both his/her parents, we won't know for sure until March 22nd.

In other news, everything else looked great. The doctor did say that I need to pick it up with weight gain. I gained 4lbs in the last 4 weeks, but I am still less than pre-pregnancy. He said that if I don't gain another 4lbs in the next 4 weeks he will send me to a nutritionist. Good thing it's Girl Scout cookie season. :-)

Next up... BIG ULTRASOUND on March 22!

No... I'm not impatient at all...

Now that we've moved into our new house, we have a nursery just waiting to be filled. Unfortunately we don't find out the sex until Monday, March 22nd @ 2:30 pm.

If I listen to all the old wive's tales, most say girl but of course that's not a definite answer. So I called my Perinatologist's office and asked them to move it to the 11th which is when I have a check up with my OB. I told them the reason was so that I didn't have to take time off from work on two different days -- although we all know the real reason. They said I wouldn't be far enough along to get accurate measurements of the anatomy. They said I would have to be 19 weeks 3 days at the minimum.

Of course this prompted me to call back a second time on another day so as to better the odds of getting someone different on the phone who might be more accommodating. This time I asked if I could move it to Friday, March 19th -- since I would actually be 19 weeks 4 days. Again I am shot down.

I suppose I should put on my big girl panties and wait like I'm told, but I'll sit here and pout a while instead.

Hurry up March 22nd!

Introducing: Pistachio the Magnificent!

Today we drove to Walnut Creek for our NT Scan. This test measures the amount of fluid under the skin at the back of the neck of the baby and combined with the results of a blood test create the "First Trimester Screening". It is used to estimate the risk of Trisomy 21 (Down's Syndrome) and Trisomy 18 (another, more severe, chromosomal abnormality). While the results wouldn't change our minds about this baby, we thought it would be good to know ahead of time to be able to plan and learn as much as we can about it, if in fact, our child would have one of these. Plus, who were we to turn down a 30 minute appointment dedicated solely to looking at our little one!

Our appointment was at 2:15 so I took off from work at about 11. We stopped by the Kaiser hospital in Walnut Creek to visit Thomas who was admitted last night. The office we were having the appointment at was literally only 3 blocks away, but we allowed 30 minutes to get there from Kaiser. Somehow we managed to get lost. I entered the address wrong into the GPS and ended up at the other hospital instead of the medical offices and we almost missed our appointment. After looking at the paperwork and putting the right address in the GPS (which I should have done in the first place, but hindsight is 20/20) , we finally made it to our appointment with 5 minutes to spare!

Once we arrived and checked in, we were called in almost immediately. We had the most amazing tech. She was so enthusiastic and friendly. As soon as she started the ultrasound she said the baby was asleep so it was easy for her to take the measurements she needed. It scared me at first that s/he wasn't moving, but once I saw the heartbeat I was perfectly content just sitting there looking at our little one.

Once she was done the Perinatologist came in. Evidently it is standard procedure in this office for the doctor to come in at the end of every appointment. By the time the he came in the baby had woken up and was moving around and jumping and even waving at us. He did some more scans and we got even more pictures (6 total!).

I can't believe how awesome this office was! I would gladly drive the hour to their office if they'd take me as a patient. But apparently we are not considered "high risk". Apparently the doctor is a fan of the winery I work for so he said he would trade wine for a 4D u/s! The tech tried and it was not very good obviously -- Justin said it looked like claymation. She said that since we are using their genetic counselors we can opt for one more appointment and if we want to come back for our gender determination at their office she'd schedule us for an hour ultrasound and do another 4D one then. We scheduled our next appointment with them for March 22 to find out the gender!

After all was said and done, the results were good. Saw a nice strong heartbeat (167) and it was great to see the baby moving around looking happy. Justin has dubbed this baby Pistachio, and after all the acrobatics we saw today, is now calling him/her Pistachio the Magnificent. So without further ado...

Count 'em -- 1, 2, 3, 4 fingers and a thumb!
